Organization for School

When my life gets hectic, I organize so in preparation for our new busy schedule I have been busy labeling, making check-lists, and creating daily hangers for Tyler's clothes.

For school, it is required that I label all of Tyler's clothes and lunch box items.  After reading about Name Bubbles on Teal & Lime I knew they were what I wanted. I do love my sharpies but Name Bubbles are (dare I say it) even cooler!  And they are washing machine/dishwasher safe!  I have been busy labeling everything I can find.  :-)

Since my husband will be the one getting Tyler ready and dropped off in the mornings I wanted to make it as easy on him as possible.  I made a checklist for the front door to remind him of all the things Tyler will need to have with him before they leave for school.

Once I had labeled all of Tyler's clothes, I got a little label crazy and decided to make hangers for each day of the week so that I could pick out his outfits on Sunday afternoon and Jeff could just grab off the proper hanger and go in the morning.

Here's hoping these little changes help make the big changes easier!

Big Changes Sweeping Thru Casa Pena

It is with an ambivalent heart that I announce I have accepted a job offer and will be back to work full time.  I have loved my time home with Tyler and it worked out to be a perfect timing with the purchase of Casa Pena 2.0.  I was able to get a lot accomplished here on the home front meeting with contractors, sewing curtains, hanging pictures, etc.  I even got to make my own artwork! I will miss mid day cuddles, being able to meet Jeff for lunch in the middle of the week, and of course all our play dates with Milk Maker friends who have been such an amazing support to me through the ups and downs of the last 2 1/2 years I've been a mommy.
Having said that, I am excited for the opportunity to begin working for an amazing company and an even more amazing boss.  I am optimistic that this will be a good change for my family in the long run but in the mean time, please send us lots of good vibes that this transition is as easy as it possibly could be for Tyler.  I have a feeling this is going to be a difficult transition for him.
I have no idea what this means for the blog.  I hope I can still find time to sit down and document our lives and our house projects but it will have to be on the back burner for now.

What We've Been Up To: August Edition

Here is what we were up to in August:

Trip to Rehobeth Beach with Aunt Jen and Uncle Tom:  We had such a great time hanging out in Rehobeth Beach.  Great little weekend get away.

Nap Time for the King

He had the beach to himself!

Eating all of Aunt Jen's snacks

The Boardwalk

We weren't sure if he was having a good time but when the ride stopped he asked for "more" in sign language.

Vacation to Ocean City with Gramma and Grampa:

He walked around for 5 minutes with this bucket on his head.

Going for a walk, be back in five...

Future DJ Perhaps?

Eating Shepard's Pie
Cruising the boardwalk
This picture makes me smile.  Tyler is a toddler of few words so when he ran up to the big picture of an ice cream cone yelling, "ICE CREAM CONE!!", then planted a big kiss on it I had to get him an ice cream. So cute!  He really enjoyed it, too.

A Birthday Party: Tyler's friend Logan celebrated his second birthday with a western themed party at his house.  Check out all the kiddos that were there:

Tyler wouldn't take that hat off!

And finally, we all gather around to sing to Logan and cut the cake and a certain little someone went in for the sweets a bit early:

National Night Out in Crofton: Every year the city of Crofton (and cities all over the country) host an event bringing the community together with the local police, firemen, and lots of other local establishments.  Tyler had a great time meeting the firemen and policemen, playing in the bouncy house, and watching the karate demonstration.

Patuxent Wildlife Refuge Twilight Tram Ride: We met Jeff after work at the Visitors Center to take a relaxing tram ride through the park and see some wildlife.  Tyler loved it - he thought it was a train.  He kept saying, "I ride train?".

Tyler's Room Update: Potterybarn Kids Snafu

We decided to get to work on Tyler's room makeover this weekend. I wanted to dismantle the convertible crib and attach the back (headboard portion) to the full size bed frame that came with the mattress set.  Thinking this would take about 20 minutes we figured, "no problem" and got to work.
Wrong!
The standard frame did not match up to the holes in the headboard.  They were off by about 2 inches.  We called and spoke to the store where we purchased the mattress set and frame and worked with them to figure out the issue: Potterybarn headboard.  Apparently this is a very common issue.

Ugh...Potterybarn Kids!

It seems they purposely make their beds a little wider than the standard so that you have to purchase either their frame or a headboard adapter kit. Had I known this would be an issue I would have just purchased the conversion kit when I got the crib. But no, PBK states that it will work "with most standard bed frames".  I am here to tell you it doesn't.

Here is the adapter kit we purchased:

Instead I placed my order Sunday afternoon and am patiently waiting for it to come in.  In the mean time Tyler's room looks like this:

Yeah, kind of a safety hazard for a two year old so in the mean time he is sleeping with us and we all know what that means:

Please, Potterybarn Kids, send that darn conversion kit fast!!

I'm not trying to knock Potterybarn Kids(well maybe a little out of frustration).  I still love their products.  They are great quality and I love their style.  Just make sure you buy the conversion kit when you purchase either a headboard or convertible crib from them and that goes for Potterybarn, too.
